March 2019 – On Thursday, March 28, Aníbal Sabater will speak about “The Overhaul of ISDS – Issues and Trends” at the Tulane Center for Energy Law’s first annual “Tulane Energy Conference – The Changing Landscape of Cross-Border Energy Transactions.”
The conference will gather global experts from industry, government and legal academics to discuss current pressing energy challenges and opportunities.
February 2019 – On Thursday, February 28th, James Hosking will participate in a panel discussion on “Current Issues in Energy Disputes.” He will be joined by Jerónimo Carcelén (Carcelen, Desmadryl, Guzman & Tapia Abogados), Kristen Young (White & Case), Melissa Gorsline (Jones Day), and John Bowman (King & Spalding).

February 2019 – On February 23rd, Andreas Frischknecht will participate in a discussion on “The more efficient approach: Prague Rule or IBA Rules” at the Beck Academy’s 17th Petersberger Arbitration Days Conference in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany. The conference is co-hosted by the German Arbitration Institute (DIS) and the German Arbitration Journal (SchiedsVZ) and is focused on “Modern Case Management and the Impact of Digitalization (Legal Tech).”
DIS is a group of more than 1,400 members based in Germany and overseas, who promote arbitration and provides essential support for the conduct of arbitration related tasks in Germany.
February 2019 – On Thursday, February 14th, Aníbal Sabater will lead a discussion at a meeting of the New York International Arbitration Club on “An Arbitrator’s Obligation to (try to) Issue an Enforceable Award: Achmea and Beyond.” Aníbal will focus on what the obligation means in practice – including whether it is being used as an excuse to run processes inefficiently, and how the recent ruling in Achmea has given it an unexpected new life.
The New York International Arbitration Club aims to promote best practices in arbitration as a means of settling international commercial disputes.
February 2018 – On Monday, February 4th, Yasmine Lahlou will speak at the 3rd CARDS’ Tour de Arbitration Conference in Paris. She will join Catherine Schroeder (Counsel, Derains & Gharavi), Hussein Haeri (Partner, Withersworldwide), Thierry Tomasi (Partner, Herbert Smith Freehills), and Hannah McIrvine (Counsel, Gide) for a panel discussion on “Recent Trends and Concerns in International Arbitration.”

November 2018 – Harvard International Arbitration Law Students Association (HIALSA) hosted its “Hot Topics in International Arbitration” panel in conjunction with ICDR Young & International on November 8th. Chaffetz Lindsey Founding Partner and Harvard alum James Hosking served on the panel along with other distinguished panelists Stephen Anway (Partner at Squire Patton Boggs LLP, New York), Catherine Anne Kunz (Counsel, LALIVE, Geneva, Switzerland), and Christopher Bloch (Associate Counsel, Singapore International Arbitration Center).

July 2018 – Chaffetz Lindsey partner James Hosking recently completed a stay as a Visiting Professor at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City. ITAM has one of the leading private law schools in Mexico. During his stay James taught a module on setting aside, recognition and enforcement of international arbitration awards, as part of the Commercial Arbitration course coordinated by Professor Hector Flores Sentíes. While much of the course focused on arbitration awards in UNCITRAL jurisdictions such as Mexico, James was also able to draw on his US experience and the work of colleagues Andreas Frischknecht, Yasmine Lahlou and Gretta Walters in their recently published treatise “Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards and Judgments in New York” (Kluwer, 2018).
June 2018 – Chaffetz Lindsey is excited to sponsor an upcoming book launch at NYIAC to honor Associate Gretta Walters and her co-authors of 40 Under 40 International Arbitration, Carlos González-Bueno ed. (2018, Dykinson). The book is authored by forty young international arbitration practitioners from across the globe and covers the lifecycle of an arbitration from the arbitration clause to enforcement of arbitral awards. Gretta’s chapter addresses dispositive motions in arbitral proceedings and addresses the shift in debate from can they be used to when they should be used.

May 2018 – James Hosking will serve as faculty at the upcoming New York State Bar Association training for Arbitrators and Counsel on “Conducting Commercial Arbitrations.” The program will take place June 18-20, 2018 at Cardozo School of Law. It is targeted at new and seasoned arbitrators wanting best practices in managing an arbitration from the preliminary conference through the award, as well as litigators interested in learning how to represent their clients in arbitrations. James will speak on the panel addressing “Advocates’ Best Practices in Selecting Arbitrators.”

March 2018 – Chaffetz Lindsey was proud to sponsor the ICDR’s Annual Y&I Coffee House Debate that took place in Vienna on March 25th at Palais Daun-Kinsky on the occasion of the 25th annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The event was co-hosted by YAS (Young Arbitrators Sweden). Chaffetz Lindsey attorney Gretta Walters spoke on a panel that debated the following topics:
