December 2020 – On Thursday, December 3rd, Aníbal Sabater will be the featured guest speaker on “Arbitration Coffee Breaks: Episode 4” hosted by Madrid Very Young Arbitration Practitioners (MAD VYAP) and Mexico City Very Young Arbitration Practitioners (MX VYAP). Aníbal will be joined by Begoña Charro de Mendieta, associate at Pinsent Masons (Madrid) to discuss his career path as a lawyer and share tips about his international arbitration experience in the US.

James Hosking and Gretta Walters to Speak at the Virtual ICDR America’s Conference 2020

November 2020 – James Hosking and Gretta Walters are speaking at the upcoming ICDR America’s Conference taking place virtually on December 1st and 2nd. The two-day conference comprises of two, one hour sessions per day, and includes small group discussions surrounding the changing practice of international arbitration and mediation, particularly given the COVID-19 pandemic, ICDR rule changes and current developments throughout the Americas.

On Tuesday, December 1st at 12:15pm EST, Gretta will serve as a moderator of the ICDR Y&I sponsored Tertulia Sessions, which involve virtual roundtable discussions about the anticipated 2021 ICDR rule changes including mediation, arbitral jurisdiction, arbitral tribunal secretaries, early disposition, cybersecurity, electronic signatures, publication of awards, and more. Gretta is an Executive Board Member of ICDR Y&I.

On Wednesday, December 2nd at 1:00pm, James will serve as Eastern U.S. Faculty for “Around the Americas – Rapid Fire Discussion on Current Developments.” The quick-moving session will feature experts from jurisdictions throughout the Americas, who will discuss key legal and practice developments pertaining to their jurisdictions.

Caline Mouawad Participated in Mock U.S. Supreme Court Argument on Section 1782 and Private Commercial International Arbitration

November 2020 – On Friday, November 20th, Caline Mouawad participated in a mock Supreme Court argument on the question “Does 28 U.S.C. § 1782 Apply to Private International Commercial Arbitrations?,” hosted by Fordham University School of Law. During the mock argument, counsel and an esteemed panel of judges considered the legal question of whether a private international commercial arbitration is “a foreign or international tribunal” within the meaning of section 1782. In addition, the participants commented on what arguments may be most persuasive before the U.S. Supreme Court. This mock argument could not be more timely – on Monday, Servotronics, Inc. filed a petition seeking Supreme Court review of this very issue.

Rainbow Willard to Speak on Recent Issues in International Arbitration at the 2020 CIArb Virtual Congress Conference

November 2020 – On Wednesday, November 11th, Rainbow Willard will participate in a panel discussion at the 2020 CIArb Virtual Congress Conference. She will speak on the Young Members Group (YMG) panel about virtual internships, the essay competition, and will join in a discussion of recent issues in international arbitration.

The Virtual Congress Conference will include a variety of online workshops on equality, diversity, and inclusion in ADR, the work of the YMG, a discussion on third party funding and other sessions relating to mediation and adjudication.

James Hosking and Gretta Walters to Speak about Virtual Hearings

November 2020 – On Tuesday, November 10th, James Hosking and Gretta Walters will participate in a panel discussion hosted by ICDR Young and International (Y&I) titled “Joinder of Parties and Virtual Hearings: When, Why and How?” The event features two panel discussions on joinder of parties and virtual hearings. James is a panelist, and Gretta a moderator for the discussion on virtual hearings. The panel will discuss the authority of arbitral tribunals to proceed with a virtual hearing when not all the parties are in agreement, when this authority should be exercised, and the logistics and procedural mechanism that should be employed.
